About us
BeGlobal the programme for Global Citizenship and youth engagement, financed by the Belgian ministery of development cooperation

BeGlobal is a centre of expertise for Global Citizenship Education (GCE) that, together with its multiple partners and the Global Citizenship Education community in Belgium and abroad, helps inspire, connect, challenge and mobilise young people and the actors engaging with them in and beyond education. BeGlobal is part of Enabel, the belgian agency for international cooperation.
In 2019, Kleur Bekennen takes a first step towards Knowledge Center and becomes Kruit.
Finally, in 2023, the two regional programs merged into the federal knowledge center for global citizenship education BeGlobal.

“Making an impact, together”
BeGlobal
Vision
We believe in the power of young people because they are aware of the global challenges and of opportunities presented by our global connectivity. Young people who think critically and take action, individually and collectively, for a future of solidarity, justice and sustainability.
That is what we, BeGlobal, are pursuing with our many partners.
Mission
By active participation in the institutional dialogue at the national and international level we contribute to strengthening an enabling environment for Global Citizenship Education.
We conduct research on Global Citizenship Education ideas and practices. We regularly share the results through a variety of channels and formats, e.g. publications, conferences, training and innovative educational materials.
We inspire education professionals with tools, training, networking and events, and we stimulate critical thinking, exchange and collaboration between various GCE actors with a view to embedding Global Citizenship Education in the school system.
More broadly, we introduce the complexity of global challenges and interdependencies to young people and work on the opportunities they have to engage individually and collectively.

What is Global Citizen Education?
Global Citizenship Education is education that enables people to reflect critically on the world and their place in it; to open their eyes, hearts and mindsets to the reality of the world at local and global level. It empowers people to understand, imagine, hope and act to bring about a world of social and climate justice, peace, solidarity, equity and equality, planetary sustainability, and international understanding. It involves respect for human rights and diversity, inclusion, and a decent life for all, now and into the future. (Dublin Declaration, 2022)
Definition Global Citizen Education
BeGlobal defines Global Citizenship Education (GCE) in terms of two equally important pillars:
global consciousness and critical literacy. Global consciousness refers to the awareness that people worldwide are interconnected socially, economically and ecologically. Moreover, we are all part of humanity and working together from a social justice perspective is necessary to tackle the challenges of our time and of the future.
In addition, critical citizenship is crucial: being able and daring to question existing rules and power relations, recognising and respecting different beliefs and perspectives, being able and daring to engage in informed discussion.
Global Citizenship Education is an education that builds on these two pillars and aims to provide learners with the competences that will enable them to participate actively in society, both locally and globally.
In this vision statement, we define Global Citizenship Education and our position as a knowledge centre within Enabel.
Our network - GCE partners
In our role as a knowledge center, we obviously do not work alone.
We make ourselves strong at a regional level by collaborating with NGO federations, UNESCO schools, NGOs active in global citizenship education (discover them in the educational map for global citizens), universities and colleges…
We can also count on fruitful collaborations at international level with actors such as the Global Education Network Europe (GENE), Academic Network for Global Education and Learning (ANGEL).
